Sitting
here, thinking about what to write. You would think it’s the easiest thing in
the world to do; after all, my mummy is the best mother in the whole wide
world… Yes, she comes before yours.
But
as easy as it seems, it is hard, because words can’t do justice to the woman of
substance that I’ve grown to know her as.
Words
can’t express how her loving has been such a blessing to not just my siblings
and I, but to countless relations and her community at large.
You
see, I call her my superwoman... one without capes, but twice as tough in heriro and buba(a Nigerian traditional attire)
She
is beautiful, not just on the outside but deep down on the inside.
She
is strong, not because she can swat that fly, but because she has a fighting
spirit and a will so strong when it comes to achieving and making a difference…
She
has pushed her way through to the peak of her field in a male dominated world,
and in all her hard work in her career and rise to the top, she never made us
feel like we played second fiddle as she strutted in the corridor of power.
How
she achieved that, I cannot tell.
She
has taught me that yes I can, not because I’m a pretty girl, but because I have
it in me. Not because I can cut corners, but because there’s a reward in doing
things the right way, even when others seem to get instant result from the
wrong lane.
She
has brought us up in the way that we should go…
Widowed
with five children, but never a moment to falter and wallow in self-pity.
Honest
in her dealings, an executive with a difference in a country ridden with
corruption. She has taught me and shown
in the way that she lives; that indeed a good name is way better than all the
silver and gold the world can offer.
She’s my mother and yes I can give you a load down of whom she’s empowered and how she’s helped her community in so many ways. I can give details of how she’s been the first amongst equals on many levels and how she’s one of the women that has served the government on many levels. But allow me to bask in the greatness of her motherhood and love she’s poured into her family…
Allow
me to be thankful to God for dropping me in her womb.
Allow
me to be thankful for seeing a definition of love that is giving and sacrificial
in this beautiful gentle looking woman who’s fierce and firm and a super hero
in all her tenderness.
The
kind of mother you’ve always dreamed of having.
The
kind of grandma you wish you had
The
kind of sister you long for.
The
kind of aunty you pray for.
The
mother in-law you would love to have…
She
may not have saved the world as you know it, but God has used her to save my
world and the world of many others countless times.
She’s
my mother, her name is Mary and she Rocks!

I love this! It is such a blessing to have mothers in our lives who truly rock! Thank you for sharing how wonderful your mom is with the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! I feel so blessed having her as my mum.
DeleteThis is awesome!! What would we really be like if not for our praying moms, our tower of strength and support, the ones who are there for us whether we are good or bad? God bless all our Mothers and keep them safe that they may continue to train up children in the way that they should grow. Lovely!!
ReplyDeleteAmen! I wonder what the world would be without mothers? God certainly knew what He was doing when He created mothers.
DeleteI love her strengths! even in a male dominated society, she has succeeded and raised five beautiful kids.....she must be awesome. Mothers are such a blessing and I am glad I am one. I can't wait for you too.
