Grace To Persevere To The End

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, v2) fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)

As believers in the body of Christ, we all have a race to run. It is not a race to see who can get to the finish line first, but rather, it is a race of service [first to God and then to man], it is a race that without a doubt will include suffering along the way, and it is a course of active and passive obedience as we journey into our future.

To each his own because the race that we run as individuals is already marked by the word of God and the examples of faithful men and women [great cloud of witnesses] who have trod the path before us.

Needless to say, a great deal of effort must still be exerted in spite of the difficulty that we most likely will encounter from day-to-day. We must be steadfast in our purpose and run with patience and perseverance. We must be prepared to lay aside everything that would hinder us. We must shed the dead weight of the present and even more so, the things of the past that ever so often tries to bombard us and to hold us back.

More thoughts on perseverance and not giving up!

1.)  Collier's dictionary meaning on perseverance states: 1) the act of persevering; continued patient effort 2) the quality of one who perseveres; persistence 3) the continuance in grace of people elevated to eternal salvation..

No matter what transpires, perseverance is a great virtue to have. And while it is true that we are able to persevere because God works within us and within the free will that He has given to us, our duty must still be to exercise faith and patience as the conquering graces to see us through to the end. Keep faith and hope alive and never let the fear of failure keep you from trying again.

2.)  "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave      up." ~ Thomas Edison

Too often we allow thoughts of defeat to cloud our better judgement and rather than pressing our way through to the end, we give up. Think of it this way though, dreams and visions would only appear impossible when we view them in their entirety or we try to achieve them on our own. But know that perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one step after another. So to you I say, one step at a time - on one day along the way you may fall, but the next day it is time for you to get up and try again!

3.)  "God knows our situation; He will not judge us as if we had no difficulties to overcome. What matters is the sincerity and the perseverance of our will to overcome them. ~ C. S. Lewis

  1. "We must shed the dead weight of the present and even more so, the things of the past that ever so often tries to bombard us and to hold us back." - this sentence screamed out at me! Yes! Yes! Yes! As we're moving forward and onward, those old habits and distractions seem to come out of nowhere, I tell ya! Persevering through it all and staying focused on our "why" and source of strength makes it all so much worthwhile.

    1. Hi Michelle, that one also spoke directly to me and even as I was writing the post, I was doing some "self talk'' I am presently looking through my 'spiritual closet' and also the physical to get the rid of all my dead weights.
